The Future of Work at Unibuddy

Just over a year ago, without precedent and with little warning, the pandemic upended our lives and forced us to shift to fully remote working. In what feels like a lifetime, we have learned to live with and make the most of it: finding benefits in flexibility and time saved, increased focus time, and better documentation and communication across teams and offices.

In many ways, we don’t know what we’ve lost or gained because we went fully remote when we were a company of 45, and we’ve since tripled in size. What is clear is that we’re not going back to the way things were before, and this worldwide health crisis has also presented us an opportunity to reshape the Future of Work at Unibuddy. That’s why today we are excited to announce that we will be moving to a highly flexible work environment.

We believe in trusting and empowering our Buddies to make the best decisions for their own lives. Our expectation is that over the next year, Buddies will work from one of our campuses (what we used to call offices) 1 –3 days of the week on average, unless they have been hired as fully remote.

We’ve decided to take a hybrid approach because we don’t have the data to confidently say what’s best for Unibuddy. Simultaneously, this approach reflects our commitment to equity and propels us toward enabling our Buddies to prioritise their personal lives while pursuing their professional ambitions - plus, it allows us to continue working together regardless of location.

In this highly flexible environment, Buddies can expect the following:

  • Once it’s safe to do so, new or modified ‘Buddy Campuses’ will open in Bangalore, New York, and London. These spaces will allow for work, collaboration, and socialisation, with both focus areas and common areas to hang out, eat, drink and have a catch up.
  • Regular team gatherings, organised socials, and annual company-wide off-sites will help preserve the best of in-person connections to foster a deeper sense of belonging, build relationships, and provide opportunities for growth and fun.
  • We’ll experiment with campus induction days or weeks where we bring people together to get to know each other, especially new Buddies who joined us during the pandemic. As we grow our team, we’ll experiment with hiring in communities all across the globe, taking our diversity and inclusion recruiting goals to new heights.

Crises test our character and reveal our true colours. The grit, empathy and ‘legendness’ that our Buddies have shown over the last year is a testament to our character and the amazing culture we’ve built together at Unibuddy.

Overwhelmingly, Buddies say one of the top reasons they love working at Unibuddy is their amazing co-workers. We are committed to making sure that stays true by continuing to grow, evolve and expand our culture with a Future of Work policy that creates a deep sense of belonging, attracts high-performing, high-integrity people, and empowers all of us to be our best selves.
