At Unibuddy, we have long known that student reviews and peer-to-peer interactions are one of the most important factors for prospective students choosing a university. It was great to have this reinforced reading The PIE just yesterday.
According to a recent survey of 32,000 prospective students from around the world conducted by the Higher Education search engine, educations.com, students, at both postgraduate and undergraduate level, are increasingly turning to student reviews to inform their decision about university. Their interest in rankings is waning, but their desire for digital content such as videos is “skyrocketing”.
The survey also found that the vast majority of undergraduate students (81%) expect a personalised response to their enquiries – and 43% want it within one day.
Speaking to The Pie News, educations.com site manager Josh Hopton-Stewart said: “We expect to see the value of student reviews and testimonials continue to grow. Unfortunately, most universities aren’t keeping up fast enough with the expectation for peer-to-peer communication.
“Whatever universities are planning in this area, scale it up. Utilise your current students as well as your alumni.”
The survey is in line with what we have found time and time again from our partners using Unibuddy: peer-to-peer works! A survey we conducted found that 89% of students who use Unibuddy are more confident about university fit after chatting to a current student.
Over 130 institutions trust Unibuddy to deliver these peer-to-peer engagements. We powered over 100,000 conversations in April – and it’s having a tangible impact on conversion. At Middlesex University, 77% of offer holders who chatted to a current student through Unibuddy went on to enrol.
Unibuddy helps students thrive through sharing their experiences, effortless technology and the smart application of data.
Together, the platform and student ambassadors provide an outlet for an institution’s authentic voice, a deeper insight into the market’s motivations and foster a sense of belonging – even before applying.
Unibuddy is working with over 130 institutions across the world, optimising conversion throughout the student application cycle, from lead generation through to enrolment, with some impressive results. But don’t just take our word for it. Have a look at www.unibuddy.com and find out what some of our partners say.
